CB Draft Prospects

N Barnett Dec. 14, 2006

1) Leon Hall, 5'11" 196 lbs, Michigan

One of the top CBs in the nation this year. Hall is a very physical player who plays very good man to man coverage. He doesn't have blazing speed which could come back to hurt him at the combine. A solid wrap up tackler who can come up to stop the run or blitz the QB. His speed is really the only knock on him.

NFL pro comparison: Ronde Barber

2) Daymeion Hughes, 6'2" 188 lbs, California

Hughes is quickly rising up the draft boards. Really burst onto the scene as a junior and again this year as a senior. He has excellent size and good speed. An aggressive player who is very good in coverage. Experienced player but is still learning.

NFL pro comparison: Rashean Mathis

3) Marcus McCauley, 6'1" 205 lbs, Fresno State

Probably the fastest CB, if not the fastest player in the draft. McCauley has elite speed to go along with his excellent size. He has top 10 potential but has slipped a bit because of a not so good senior season. Still, he has a very high potential to be a lock down CB in the NFL. I would look for him to regain his ranking after he tests out well at the combine.

NFL pro comparison: DeAngelo Hall

4) *Darrelle Revis, 6'0" 200 lbs, Pittsburgh

An up and coming player is Darrelle Revis. A very talented CB who was a starter since being a true freshman. Revis has the ability to be a lock down CB with his size and skills. Great instincts and a hard hitter. Still learning but his return skills make him a valuable asset. An underrated prospect who might declare for the draft depending on his draft grade.

NFL pro comparison: Charles Woodson

5) Fred Bennett, 6'1" 201 lbs, South Carolina

Bennett has the size and speed to be a #1 CB in the NFL. Still learning, he has alot of potential. A solid pass defender, he needs to be a more consistant tackler. A good combine could push him into the late 1st round. He has the skills and could be a nice sleeper pick.

NFL pro comparison: Chris McAlister

6) Aaron Ross, 6'1" 192 lbs, Texas

Ross has quickly established himself as an all around good player. He has the size you look for at CB but has slightly below average speed. Might end up as a cover 2 CB or as a safety if he can bulk up a bit. Ross is very aggressive and has experience returning kicks.

NFL pro comparison: Reynaldo Hill

7) *Antoine Cason, 6'0" 182 lbs, Arizona

A bit overrated because of the conference he plays in, but overall he has show some ability and potential. Good size but doesn't have great speed. Cason is a very good tackler who has a nose for the ball. Should return to school to gain more experience though.

NFL pro comparison: Antrel Rolle

8) Tanard Jackson, 6'1" 193 lbs, Syracuse

Jackson has alot of potential and is another sleeper canidate. Skills wise he is there, but really lacks the technique to really improve his game. Physical player plays man to man very well. High ceiling but needs to be coached up. Also has some alarming character issues.

NFL pro comparison: Charles Tillman

9) Jonathan Wade, 6'0" 195 lbs, Tennessee

Wade, aside from being a CB, is also a track athlete. He has great size and speed. Still learning the CB position, he could be a solid #2 CB in the NFL. Needs coaching and experience. Needs to be developed in a backup role but could have some return skills which helps his stock a bit.

NFL pro comparison: Quentin Jammer

10) Marcus Hamilton, 5'11" 187 lbs, Virginia

An ideal fit for the cover 2 defense. Hamilton is an experienced player who has a nose for the ball. A very good tackler, teams may also try him at safety. Very good hands as well. Overall though he is a pure football player who has good potential.

NFL pro comparison: Brian Williams
