RB Draft Prospects
by N Barnett Dec. 6, 2006
1) *Adrian Peterson, 6'1" 215 lbs, Oklahoma
One of the most anticipated RBs to come out will be Adrian Peterson. Since his freshman season he has impressed everyone who has seen him play and he should be a top 10 pick come April. A rare combination of speed, power, and acceleration gives him potential to be an elite RB in the NFL if he can stay healthy.
NFL pro comparison: Shaun Alexander
2) *Marshawn Lynch, 5'11" 217 lbs, California
From top to bottom, a complete RB. Lynch has good size, speed, and hands which makes him a threat whenever he is on the field. He also has experience returning kicks. Lynch has been pretty durable and very productive and has the ability to be an above average RB when he gets to the NFL level.
NFL pro comparison: Tiki Barber
3) Kenny Irons, 5'11" 200 lbs, Auburn
Irons is an interesting guy to watch because in his short time at Auburn he has put up big rushing numbers. Shows good power for a guy his size. Not much of a receiver out of the backfield. Many wonder if he is just a product of the offense or if he is the real deal. If he bulks up a bit he could be a very productive NFL RB and a steal for some team in the late 1st to 2nd round.
NFL pro comparison: Thomas Jones
4) Michael Bush, 6'3" 246 lbs, Louisville
When you think about a power RB, Bush comes to mind. A big guy who has an extraordinary ability to muscle the ball downfield. Suprisingly athletic for a guy his size. Might be too big to make it at RB in the NFL because he runs to high making him an easy target. I think that he would be a great option at TE because of his size and he has the speed to get downfield and to possibly lineup at WR.
NFL pro comparison: Steven Jackson
5) *Chris Henry, 6'1" 233 lbs, Arizona
Henry has excellent size for a RB and elite speed. While he hasn't been as productive, alot of it is because he split carries. If Henry returns for his senior season he could emerge as one of the best RBs next season. As of right now he likely a mid to late day 1 pick.
NFL pro comparison: Willie Parker
6) Tony Hunt, 6'2" 219 lbs, Penn State
Tony Hunt is a workhouse who does anything thats asked of him. The only problem is that he really hasn't stood out for any one reason. He is probably a little below average in terms of speed but could fine his niche as a 3rd down or change of pace RB. He rarely loses yards and should be a solid overall player.
NFL pro comparison: Fred Taylor
7) Lorenzo Booker , 5'11" 193 lbs, Florida State
Booker put up good numbers last season even with splitting carries with Leon Washington. He is a good runner who is an above average receiver out of the backfield. Undersized but could potentially develop into a starting NFL RB if he can bulk up.
NFL pro comparison: Warrick Dunn
8) Tyrone Moss, 5'10" 227 lbs, Miami (FL)
Moss is an interesting prospect because of the school he plays for. Over the year, Miami has produced alot of top notch RBs that have made it in the NFL. Moss however doesn't appear to ever be a great one but should be a productive player. He hasn't really dominated the teams the he should have but he should be a solid #2 RB for some team with an already established RB.
NFL pro comparison: Frank Gore
9) *Darius Walker, 5'10" 208 lbs, Notre Dame
A potential sleeper is Darius Walker. More likely a late 2nd to 3rd round pick if he declares this year, Walker could potentially become a very good RB in the NFL. A little smaller than teams like but he has been very productive and shown that he can take the bulk of the rushing load. An underrated receiver out of the backfield.
NFL pro comparison: Brian Westbrook
10) *Antonio Pittman , 5'11" 195 lbs, Ohio State
Antonio Pittman is another guy who could potentially be one of the top RBs if he returns to school, which is likely. He has good power and has the speed to take it the distance when he gets in open field. Not much of a receiver out of the backfield but if he works hard he could really impove his stock next year.
NFL pro comparison: Carnell Williams
* Underclassmen eligible for 2007 NFL draft
