ST Draft Prospects
N Barnett Dec. 14, 2006
Kickers:
1) Mason Crosby, 6'2 215 lbs, Colorado
The biggest leg of all the kickers, Crosby has outstanding power but struggled with accuracy. He might need his mechanics tweaked a bit. Can do kickoffs as well. Has potential to be a good kicker, but will struggle early with accuracy.
NFL pro comparison: Josh Brown
2) Justin Medlock, 6'0" 197 lbs, UCLA
The nation's top kicker this year. He is arguablt the best kicker in the draft because he is NFL ready. Doesn't have the potential that Crosby has though. Medlock can do kickoffs as well. He's very accurate and should win a kicking job right away.
NFL pro comparison: Nate Kaeding
3) Nick Folk, 6'1" 215 lbs, Arizona
Has a good leg but struggles from the 40+ yard line. Good potential as he can also punt and handle kickoffs. Could be a good 6th or 7th round pick for a team looking to develop a kicker or punter.
NFL pro comparison: Olindo Mare
Punters:
1) Daniel Sepulveda, 6'3" 221 lbs, Baylor
Won the Ray Guy Award winner as the nation's top collegiate punter in 2004 and again in 2006. The 1st time a player has won the award twice. He has a strong leg and can place his punts very well.
NFL pro comparison: Shane Lechler
2) *Ken DeBauche, 6'1" 222 lbs, Wisconsin
While only a junior, DeBauche has really burst onto the scene as one of the nation's best punters. A strong legged guy who has good accuracy with his punts. Has the experience of kicking in the colder climates as well. He will likely return to school and be the top punter next season.
NFL pro comparison: Brad Maynard
3) *Britton Colquitt, 6'3" 198 lbs, Tennessee
The younger brother of the Kansas City Chiefs punter Dustin Colquitt. Britton follows the same bloodlines. He has a good leg and hangtime. Only a junior so I'd look for him to return to school where he and DeBauche will battle it out for the top punter next season.
NFL pro comparison: Dustin Colquitt
* Underclassmen eligible for 2007 NFL draft
